POLITICAL NEWS THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCEWeekly Average Of Presidential Polls In Pennsylvania
By: presidential-politics.com Updated on November 1, 2012
Polls
indicate that Pennsylvania has become a genuine battle ground state and will
play a deciding roll in the outcome of the presidential election.
Following is an average of the latest available polls during the last 7 days:
President Obama 49.40% Governor Romney 44.80% [References: Real Clear Politics, 2012] Pennsylvania State Supreme court Hears The Appeal On Voter ID Law
By: presidential-politics.com September 18, 2012
The
appeal from the decision of the Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson
upholding the controversial Pennsylvania Voter ID Law came up for
hearing before the state supreme court on September 13th. Under this
law voters are required to show a photo ID before casting their
ballots. A decision is expected soon and those who oppose the law
are hoping that the State Supreme Court will at least block this law
from taking effect for this year's election which is to be held in 49
days. [References: MSNBC TV, 09-13-2012] Latest Polls Put President Obama Ahead In Pennsylvania
By: presidential-politics.com September 18, 2012 Latest
poll by Philadelphia Inquirer dated September 15, 2012 gives President
Obama an eleven point lead over Governor Romney in the State of Pennsylvania, Obama
51% to Romney's 39%. The lead is well outside the margin of error
and may explain the decision by the Romney campaign to withhold
advertising at least for now. [References: MSNBC TV, 09-16-2012] Court To Decide On Pennsylvania Voter ID Law
[07-26-2012]
"Voter
ID - which is going to allow Governor Romney to win the State of
Pennsylvania - done" Those were the exact words of, none other than,
the Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai in June addressing a
group of his fellow Republicans. Well, the voter ID law is now in
court.
The new law that requires a voter to produce a photo
identification to be able to vote came before Commonwealth Court Judge
Robert Simpson who could decide whether to block it for this year's
election.
The Judge said a decision could be made in mid
August leaving sufficient time for an appeals process including one to
the Supreme Court.
Several
states with Republican party led legislatures
have introduced laws that would make it more difficult for their
citizens to vote. The main argument in favor of such laws has been that
it would prevent voter fraud. Those opposing the laws argue that
the real reason for these laws is to make it difficult for minorities,
elderly and students to exercise their right to vote. They
also contend that these voters mostly vote for Democratic
candidates. Pennsylvania U.S. senate Race 2012[05-29-2012] Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Casey won in the Democratic primary and will be challenged in the general election by Republican nominee Tom Smith. Mr. Smith, a farmer and former businessman has been a Democrat as recently as 2010. Current
polls show Senator Casey leading Mr. Smith by a comfortable margin.
Five months however, is an eternity in politics. [References: Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia]
