Republican U.S. Senator Dean Heller was appointed to the seat left
vacant by the resignation of U.S. senator John Ensign. Mr. Ensign
resigned effective May 3, 2011 over a sex scandle. Mr. Heller is
running for his first full term.

The State of Nevada gained one congressional seat as a result of the 2010 United States census.
The
redistricting process was contentious. The maps drawn by the
legislature were vetoed three times by the Republican Governor. The
matter was finally settled in the Nevada Supreme Court in November
2011. There were no further challange to the maps drawn by the Special
Masters Panel appointed by Nevada First Judicial District Court Judge James Russell.

The
only safe conclusion that could be drawn from the latest polls in
Nevada is that the presidential race in the state is still close. Two
polls yesterday and the day before gives President Obama a nine point
and a seven point lead. In another poll yesterday, the President and

Public Policy Polling taken June 7th to 10th has U.S. Senator Heller with 44% and U.S. Rep. Berkley with 43%. A NBC/Marist Poll taken May 22nd to 24th was not much different.
