PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS AND STATE POLITICS

Both United States senators and governor of the State of Montana are Democrats. Nevertheless, for purposes of the presidential election 2012 we would describe Montana as a Red State, a Republican State.

Presidential Election 2012

The Electoral College as presently constituted has 538 members. In accordance with the size of its population the State of Montana is a single district At-Large state and is  allotted 3 electoral votes.  Montana being a winner-takes-all state the winning candidate will receive all 3 votes. Mr. Tester is the incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator from Montana and is running for a second term.

Montana has one At-Large congressional district. The state did not gain any additional congressional districts from the 2010 census.

Mr. Daines is a political activist and was the Republican Party nominee for Lieutenant Governor in 2008.

Montana Primary Election Results

[July 4, 2012]
Montana primary elections were held on June 5, 2012.

In the Republican U.S. Senate primary U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg won easily and will challange incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Tester in the November 6, 2012 election.

In the Democratic primary for the open At-Large Montana congressional district, state senator Kim Gillian won easily.
Steve Daines who was the GOP nominee for Lieutenant governor in 2008 won the Republican primary and will face off with Ms. Gillian in November.

Montana gubernatorial race is for an open seat. Incumbent Democratic Governor Brian Schweitzer is term limited.
State Attorney General Steve Bullock won the Democratic Party primary. He will face off in the general election  with former U.S. Rep. Rich Hill who won the Republican Party primary.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Tester will be running for a second term.

Six term Congressman Denny Rehberg  and farmer Dennis Teske are seeking the Republican Party nomination.

Retired businessman Jerry McConnell is the Libertarian candidate.

The Republican primary is set for June 5, 2012.

There will  be a Gubernatorial Election in 2012 in Montana State.

Two-term incumbent Democratic Governor Brian Schweitzer  is term limited. The Montana Constitution prohibits him from seeking a third term.

State Attorney General Steve Bullock has announced that he will be seeking the Democratic Party nomination. Lieutenant Governor John Bohlinger is also a viable potential democratic Party candidate.
