the then incumbent U.S. Senator of Mississippi Trent Lott retired at
the end of 2007, former U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker was appointed for the
seat by Governor Haley Barbour and a special election was held in 2008
to elect a U.S. Senator to serve the remainder of Mr. Lott's term. Mr.
Wicker defeated former Mississippi Gov. Ronnie Musgrave who ran as an
Independent. The
primary election, 2012 was held on March 13, and the following
