Presidential Election 2012

The State of Maryland is allotted 10 electoral votes in the Electoral College.  Maryland being a winner-takes-all state, the candidate that wins in the state will receive 10 electoral votes. There are 538 members of the Electoral College as it it currently constituted and the winning number is 270. [U.S. Electoral College, 2011]

The State of Maryland is a safe Democratic State, and is accordingly described as a Blue State.

Ben Cardin was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. Prior to that he has served as a U.S. House of Representative from 1987 to 2007.

Republican Party candidate Daniel Bongino is a former U.S. Secret Service Agent and previous to that he has been with the New York City Police Department.

State of Maryland primary elections were held on April 3, 2012.

Incumbent Senator Ben Cardin won the Democratic primary and will be the Democratic party nominee in the November 6,  2012 general election.

Daniel Bongino won  the GOP primary and will be the Republican Party nominee in November 6, 2012 general election.

Two others, Brandy Baker and Dennis David will be on the ballot as Independent candidates.
