PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS AND STATE POLITICS.

Indiana could easily be considered a Red State, meaning a safe Republican State. However, for the purposes of the upcoming Presidential election, we believe that it will be a battle ground state and will place it in the purple column.

Presidential election 2012

As it is presently constituted there are 538 members in  the Electoral College. The winning number is 270.  The State of Indiana is allotted 11 electoral votes and Indiana being a winner-takes-all state, the winning candidate gets all the 11 electoral votes.

POLITICAL NEWS THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Indiana U.S. Senate Race - Donnelly Takes The Lead

By: presidential-politics.com
September 30, 2012

Democratic Party Congressman Joe Donnelly is in the lead in the U.S. Senate race. It is only a very slight lead of two points according to a poll dated September 27, 2012 by Howey/DePauw, Donnelly 40%, Mourdock 38%. But at this point in the race any lead is great to get your base enthused and to attract independents to take a serious look at your campaign.

Indiana U.S. Senator Richard Lugar Looses The Primary

[05-08-2012]
The Indiana primary was held today.
In what can only be described as a sad day for  moderate Republicans in Indiana, the six term Republican Senator Richard Lugar lost in his bid to seek a seventh term as the GOP nominee.

The Tea Party backed State Treasure Richard Mourdock won the primary easily receiving 61% of the vote to Mr. Lugar's 39%.

The main campaign  against Mr. Lugar was that he was too moderate. The contention that he has been in the senate  for 36 years and it is time for somebody new may have also contributed to Mr. Lugar loosing the primary.

Mr. Mourdock will face Democratic Rep. Joe Donnelly in the general election in November 2012. Mr. Lugar's loss will give an opening to Mr. Donnelly in this U.S.  Senate seat which has been a Republican stronghold. In 2006 election  there wasn't even a Democratic challenger to Mr. Lugar.
