Alabama Congressional District 05
Democrat Charlie L Holley

is the choice of    presidential-politics.com
for Alabama Congressional District 05.

Mr. Holley will run against Incumbent Republican Party Congressman Mo Brooks.

Mr. Holley works as a computer administrator in Huntsville Hospital and is also an associate minister at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville.

He has spoken about protecting Medicare, importance of collective bargaining,  and opposing Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

On jobs, Mr. Holley has expressed concern that the incumbent U.S. Rep. Brooks has not done enough to protect Defense and NASA jobs that fuel  Huntsville's economy. He is also for closing federal tax loopholes that benefit large corporations and wealthy.

On immigration,  He  supports a criteria- based system, within a defined time period, for illegal immigrants to apply for citizenship without prosecution.

In our opinion, Mr. Holley is on the reasonable side of issues that matter today. We are delighted to support him.

President Obama did not fare any better in the State of Alabama in the 2012 presidential election  than he did in 2008. In both contests he received only 38% of the vote to his opponents 60%.

In the U.S. House of Representatives election in Alabama, all  six Republican members were reelected as did the sole Democratic congresswoman.

A Chance For Democrats To Win  Alabama Congressional District 2 In 2012

Updated on July 21, 2012
[First published on 03-27-2012]

Re-districting has not made major changes to the demographic make up of District 2. The district is slightly less Black on the new map, 30 percent down to 29.5 percent: and less White, down from almost 68 percent to about 65 percent. The Hispanic population is about 3.6 percent.

Congressional District 2 had been a safe Republican seat for a very long time until 2008. Republican Congressman William Dickinson represented the seat for 28 years followed by Republican Congressman Terry Everett for the next 16 years. Mr. Everett, a strong conservative  won in 2006 receiving 70 percent of the vote.  He  announced his retirement in 2007 and by 2008, GOP has lost it's grip on the District. It was for real.

Democrat Bobby Bright won District 2 in Presidential election year 2008 by a small margin (1790 votes) and lost to Republican Martha Roby in mid-term election 2010, but not by a lot (4876 votes). Considering , how badly the Democratic incumbents fared nationwide  in 2010 mid-term elections, Mr. Bright's loss by 2.2%, while disappointing is not irreversible.

2012 is a Presidential election year and the signs are that there will be a huge turnout in every district in the nation. 2012 Democratic Party nominee Therese Ford is a solid candidate with strong positions on issues that matter to Democrats. With some decent financing, Miss Ford has an excellent chance to win Congressional district 2 in Alabama.

Democrats Can Win Back Alabama Congressional District 5 In 2012

[03-26-2011]

The new map after re-districting has not made huge  changes to the demographic make up of District 5.

The 5th District goes from 79 percent white to 76 percent white. Black hasn't changed. It remains at 17 percent. But the District now is 4.8 percent  Hispanic and that is enough, if the Democratic candidate Charlie Holley can get a large part of that vote. The way the Republican Party is currently handling minority issues, that shouldn't be too difficult.

Prior to the nationwide shackling the Democratic Party received in 2010, District 5 has been a Democratic seat for many years.

Democrat Robert Cramer was a nine term incumbent, when he decided not to run in 2008. Indeed, Mr. Cramer was unopposed in 2006.

Democrat Parker Griffith won in 2008 even though not by a big margin. He received 52% of the vote to Republican Wayne Parker's 48%. But the number that matters is the votes he received. He got 156,529 votes to Mr. Parker's 147,190.

In 2009 Mr. Griffith switched parties, became a Republican and was handily beaten by Mo Brooks in the Republican Primary.

Mr. Brooks won in 2010 beating Democrat Steve Ratby 57.9% to 42.1%.  Again the number that matters is the votes he received. With all the hoopla of "ObamaCare" and anti-democratic sentiments Mr. Brooks was able to get only 130,927votes which was 16,000  less than what Republican Parker got, when he lost in 2008. Of course 2010 was a mid-term election. Nevertheless, there seems to have been an enthusiasm deficit. This has also been reflected in the recent March 2012 Primary which Mr. Brooks won, but received only 65,115 votes.

Above figures suggest that Mr. Brooks can be beaten. Another figure however suggests otherwise. That is campaign finance: according to Open Secrets.Org,  Mr. Brooks has raised over $500,000 so far. Mr. Holley will need some decent money if he were to pull this off. If the Democrats want to win the House back, they should do some fund raising for Mr. Holley.

Boman wins in District 04

Alabama House Rep. Daniel Boman won in the Primary  held on 03-13-2012  and will be the Democratic Party candidate for Alabama Congressional District 4.
He will challenge Republican Party candidate, Incumbent Robert B Aderholt in November 2012.

Colonel Bailey wins in District 6

Colonel Penny Bailey  won in the Primary  held on 03-13-2012  and will be the Democratic Party candidate for Alabama's 6th Congressional District.
She  will challenge Incumbent Republican Party candidate  Spencer Bachus in November 2012.

Alabama Congressional District 7

GOP candidate Don Chamberlain won in the Republican Primary on Tuesday and will challenge Incumbent Democratic Party candidate Terri Sewell in November 2012 Election.

Alabama Congressional District 02

Democrat Therese Ford will challenge freshman U.S. Rep. Martha Roby in November election.

Roby won in 2010 by unseating Democrat Bobby Bright in a hotly contested close election. She won by less than 5000 votes.

Therese Ford has worked for the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center for 27 years and now teaches in local universities.
She will be a loud voice in Congress to protect Social Security and Medicare. Miss Ford has said that one of the reasons she is running for Congress is because she was tired of seeing "Social security and Medicare used as bargaining chips".  "That is something we own and not somebody else's to gamble away" Miss Ford has said.

Therese Ford is the choice of presidential-politics.com
for Alabama Congressional District 02.

We wish her all success.

Important New Voting Requirements In Alabama [2011-11-15] Alabama is one of several states that has enacted new legislation that requires voters to show photo identification in order to vote. The reason for the legislation, the Republicans say, is to prevent voter fraud. The Democrats say it is to suppress votes, especially those of the poor, the very elderly and the minorities. These groups tend to vote Democratic. An outside observer would find it difficult to understand the reasoning for this legislation. If the Republicans suspect that voter fraud occurred in 2008 and 2010 elections, how is it that they did so well? They occupy the Governor's mansion. Both U.S. Senators from Alabama are Republicans. Six out of seven United States Representatives are Republicans. They control the state senate and the state house by huge margins. In the last Presidential election in 2008 the Republican candidate Senator John McCain won big against Senator Obama (60.32% to 38.74%). So, one might wonder what voter fraud are they talking about and what more they want? What ever the reasons are, it is a fact that new laws are now in effect. The vast majority of the population in Alabama,  Democrats and Republicans alike, will be troubled if a fellow citizen is prevented from casting a vote due to lack of a photo identification. There is a remedy for this injustice.. The workers of both parties and independent organizations of every type should recognize what has happened and set aside some time on a daily or weekly basis to assist those citizens that need help in getting a photo identification. The photo I.D. is issued free of charge. This new legislation should not be permitted to deny a citizen's right to vote. Not so long ago, American blood was shed for the right to vote.
